Bucket Brigade Theater Camp isn’t just for the singers and actors and outgoing kids. It’s also for the thinkers, the “quiet ones,” and the kids struggling to connect. It’s a way for all different kinds of kids to engage play, use their bodies and voices in an energized way to build confidence, make connections and become more expressive.
At Theater Camp students will be exploring elements of creative expression and theater through on-your-feet-exercises and improv games. They will be encouraged and equipped to freely express themselves, engage their imagination, work in an ensemble, effectively communicate physically and vocally and create a short original theater piece, in their own words, that will be performed for a public showcase at Art House North.
We don’t just “do theater games.” We are passionate about creating new work– honestly wrestling with ideas and communicating them thoughtfully and imaginatively through art. We love inspiring students to find their voice and communicate what’s in their head and heart.
The theme for Summer of 2024: The Funny Thing is… Life is funny. And boy-oh-boy is it good to laugh. And it’s even better to laugh together. This summer we’re gonna lean into laughter— playing, creating and delighting in the fun, funny, honest and seriously ridiculous. Exploring over-the-top-characters, smart comedic sketches, and celebrating the art of telling a really good funny story. Students will write their thoughts about the topic and perform a short theater piece in their own words as well as perform some fun, comedic sketches related to the topic.
Teaching Artists: Actor, playwright and theater-doer, Jeremiah Gamble has been making, performing, producing and teaching theater for over twenty years. He will be working with students to explore elements of theater through on-your-feet-exercises and improv games and helping them craft an original theater piece. Joining Jeremiah is actor, producer, writer and teacher Damian Leverett, founder of Orchard Theater Collective and graduate of the U of MN Guthrie B.F.A Program in Acting.
Venue: All classes and student showcase performances are at Art House North, 793 Armstrong Avenue, Saint Paul.
